The tourism industry in Melaka holds huge potential for the state as it is popular for its well preserved culture and heritage. The tourism factor has gained considerable importance both globally and nationally as a source of economic growth and employment. Information of the tourist arrival for the past 5 years are as follow :-
- 2014 : 14.9 million (10.8 million local; 4.1 million foreign)
- 2015 : 15.6 million (11.2m local; 4.4m foreign)
- 2016 : 16.2 million (11.2m local; 5.0m foreign)
- 2017 : 16.7 million (11.0m local; 5.7m foreign)
